What is Additive Manufacturing (AM)?
Additive manufacturing is a catch-all term for a variety of internationally developed systems capable of producing an array of assemblies and components. The defining characteristic of additive manufacturing is the way in which models are built: raw materials are deposited in layers according to 3D modeling software (CAD), one on top of the other, until the model is complete. It’s common to see 3D printing and AM used interchangeably, but they’re not quite the same thing. 3D printing is only one kind of technology utilized in additive manufacturing, we also support additive fabrication, rapid prototyping (RP), direct digital manufacturing (DDM), and layered manufacturing.
